IMPRESS PROJECT- KICK-OFF MEETING

We’re thrilled to share that the IMPRESS project, co-funded by Horizon Europe, held its kick-off meeting in Dublin, Ireland, on the 3rd & 4th of July. This four-year adventure is centred around EU Bioeconomy and Blue Growth strategies, focusing on promoting sustainable, zero-waste production and consumption in marine and freshwater sectors.

Kick-Off Meeting Highlights IMPRESS’s Key Initiatives

The two-day kick-off meeting served as an exciting starting point for the IMPRESS project’s journey. Hosted by Teagasc, a renowned research institute with a knack for sustainable food production and innovative processing techniques, the event was much more than your typical meet-and-greet.

Not only did we dive into understanding the broader bioeconomy landscape, marine bioeconomy initiatives, and Horizon Europe priorities, but we also got an insightful glimpse into each other’s visions and plans. One of the meeting’s standout discussions involved our approach to unlocking the potential of underutilised and low trophic species and leveraging waste streams from fish processing. These two areas will be pivotal in our quest to create new food and non-food products.

From Sustainability to Market Reality: IMPRESS’s Comprehensive Approach

It’s one thing to preach sustainability, but at IMPRESS, we’re about walking the talk. Our project will map existing product ranges, market trends, and regulations. We’ll also gain valuable input from producers, processors, and consumers. The ultimate goal? To create new, market-ready products that resonate with the industry and meet consumer needs.

Driving Change Beyond the Project: IMPRESS’s Circular Model and Consumer-Centric Vision

But the IMPRESS story doesn’t end with the creation of sustainable products. We are keen on adopting a circular business model that addresses environmental and social responsibility. Through a pan-EU consumer survey, we aim to understand consumers’ perspectives on sustainable marine and freshwater products. This valuable insight will then feed into the development of our new product lines.

The journey of IMPRESS has just begun, but we promise it’s one you’ll want to keep an eye on. We’ll be showcasing our progress at various events across Europe, so stay tuned for updates and learn how you can be a part of our journey to a more sustainable future.

Join us as we work towards transforming the blue bioeconomy. Together, we can create a zero-waste world that our oceans and freshwater bodies will thank us for. Let’s make an IMPRESS-ion!
